21st Century Leadership Artifacts
Artifact #1 - Planning a Professional Development
For this artifact I was in charge of designing a professional development day for the staff. It was based around implementing Genius Hour into our classrooms. I am always so frustrated as an educator when I receive professional development and I just get lectured to for an hour. I wanted to develop a training day that was not only interactive but also had technology embedded into it. I utilized tools like Nearpod to keep my presentation interactive and also used Padlet to promote discussion with everyone involved in the training. I made sure to include fun brain breaks and also give plenty of time for the staff to have time to discover about Genius Hour by providing several different resources. Being on this side of the development gave me a unique experience and I found out that it is no easy task to design a meaningful training day for teachers!
Artifact #2 - Genius Hour Capstone Initiative
I was in charge of creating a district wide initiative to implement for the upcoming school year. After doing a ton of research I decided upon implementing a Genius Hour. Before this project I had heard of Genius Hour but I did not know any of the details. Building this project from the ground up was a unique experience that provided a ton of great insight. It forced me to view things from the administrative side which meant I had to think about how I was going to pitch this new idea to my staff. Throughout this project I had the opportunity to design faculty meetings, professional developments, resources for the staff to use, and even a rollout calendar. Genius Hour is a great way to support student choice and creativity and I look forward to implementing it into my own classroom!
