ED 675 Artifacts
Artifact #1 - Collaborative Assignment
For this artifact I included a link to a Nearpod I use in my health class. The Nearpod covers the essential nutrients. After covering the information for each specific nutrient I included some sort of activity (fill in the blank, open ended question, video, post its) for the students to complete that relates to each nutrient. There are two different collaborative activities that I really enjoy in this lesson. The first is an open ended question asking students to list some of their favorite foods that contain carbohydrates. Once the students have submitted their response the answers show up anonymously on the screen. This allows for some great discussion points comparing/contrasting some of the food items listed. The other collaborative activity in the nearpod I really enjoy is after the protein slide. The activity is huge post it board where students can add ideas to. This time students can post pictures of foods that are high in protein. Once pictures begin to be posted students can "like" each others' posts. Usually by the end of the activity we have over 30 different foods listed. I use nearpods often in my health class due to the collaborative activities that can be added into them. Students are engaged in the lesson and also have the ability to work/talk with one another to promote a great learning environment. Now that I am much more familiar with Nearpod I am looking forward to using more of the collaborative features of this tool to drive student engagement.

Artifact #2 - Guideline Design
For this artifact I included a poster I created covering proper guidelines for chromebook use in my classroom. I plan on using this with my students in my health classrooms to cover all expectations when using devices. These rules will also be posted around my classroom and on my teacher website. As my district transitions to 1:1 student to computer ratio, developing guidelines and rules is essential. With each student now having their own device it creates a much different learning environment. I must ensure that all students understand and follow these rules to create a safe learning environment where all my students can be successful.

Hi Adam,
ReplyDeleteI love that you are able to use Nearpod with your students. I think it is such a powerful tool for student engagement, as well as assessment! Your collaborative assignment will definitely encourage some great discussions in health class. What a great activity...thank you for sharing! Seeing other people's Nearpod presentations always gives me great ideas on how to enhance my own! Thanks so much! :)
Hi Adam,
ReplyDeleteI think your Chromebook Rules poster is great! I think it is really important to discuss expectations and have a poster or reminder around the room throughout the year. We all forget sometimes and I think this is a great way to keep your students focused on their responsibility as a user of a tech device. I've started creating many reminder posters like this to use with my 4th graders! Thanks for the good ideas! :)
Yes, the poster is great. It's a great visual to have around the classroom and even on your LMS. It's also a great discussion starter where students could share ways of how different situations could be handled when following the poster expectations.
