EDU 679 Reflection



EDU 679 challenged my view on assessments and grades in general.  I was introduced to many new ideas including a variety of different grade-less assessment ideas.  I found this very helpful as my district is currently transitioning into a Standards Based Grading module.  EDU 679 allowed me to reflect on my assessment practices and see some areas that I could improve in.  One activity gave me the opportunity to even develop my own grade-less based system.  I also was able to create a technology rubric that I can use in my health classrooms.  Before starting the class and simply looking at the syllabus I was not very excited about any of the topics, however, I found that EDU 679 provided many takeaways that will have a strong impact on student learning.

    Adam, I'm glad you were able to find some "takeaways" from this course. You have created some amazing products to integrate into your PE classes! I have enjoyed working with you (again!) and wish you all the best in your future tech endeavors.

My name is Adam DeGroot and I have been teaching Physical Education/Health for 12 years.  All of those years have been in the Troy School District at William B. Orenic Intermediate School.  I attended Trinity Christian College for my Bachelor's degree and also have a Master's Degree from Concordia University in Educational Leadership.  Coaching is a huge passion of mine especially coaching basketball!  For the past 7 years I have coached basketball at Joliet Catholic Academy.  I am also one of the golf coaches at Troy.  My wife (Meagan) and I stay busy by chasing our very energetic 2 year old son (Finley) around!  I am kind of a fitness nut and enjoy getting my workouts in bright and early at 5am.  I'm excited for the opportunity to learn more about implementing technology in education through this cohort.
